Always More to Do, More to Enjoy

Pickled Beets from Steppin Out Foods

Always More to Do, More to Enjoy

September is here in force with cooler days and golden hues aplenty.

Down at market it's written up and down the aisles, with caramel apples in at County Line Plants and Produce, baskets of mums from Garden Gate Flowers and crates of winter squash rolling in from Natalie's Garden & Greenhouse (pictured).

The early signs of fall don't mask the summer bounty still in great abundance, though perhaps now there's a sense of urgency for the market projects you've had on the list.

Stacks of beautiful red bell peppers from Happy Valley Farm are perfect for whipping up a batch of delicious muhammara. This lovely spread made from roasted red peppers and walnuts brings a taste of the middle east right to your door, especially with Wisconsin grown walnuts from Bonde Bee.

Late summer wild mushroom season is here, with oysters, chanterelles and chicken of the woods mushrooms now available. Black Earth Valley had some great "chickens," perfect for this delectable Chicken Fried Chicken of the Woods recipe.

Squeezing in every hopeful market project can be a bit optimistic, even with the best intentions. Let Steppin Out Foods ease the load with their crunchy pickled dilly beans and pickled beets (pictured above), ready to be enjoyed without the sweat equity.

As we move further into September, we say goodbye to Flyte Family Farms for the remainder of the 2021 season. We'll miss them and look forward to their return in the spring of 2022.

The forecast for this weekend's market has a lot more summer than fall to it, with temps maxing out around 90°. We hope you join us to soak it all in and check a few things off your summer market to do list. It won't be too long before canning tomatoes will be replaced with carving pumpkins.

See you at market!
