Bring on July
Happy 4th of July from the Westside Community Market
Bring on July
We'll let you all enjoy your 4th of July celebrations, hopefully full of tasty market finds before the fireworks begin, but we'd best clue you in first to all the great things to come this month.
July brings the first big produce hauls of summer to market with great finds like fennel, yellow summer squash, early potatoes, zucchini and fresh carrots from vendors like Sai's Garden (pictured) and others.
The month is full of yummy berries, beautiful flowers and all your market favorites like farm fresh eggs, cheese curds and locally raised meats for the grill.
Bryant Family Farms will delight us this weekend with fresh, never frozen chicken in a variety of cuts and whole birds.
Another delight to look forward to this Saturday is the first sweet corn of the 2024 season with Alsum Sweet Corn returning to the market.
Those looking for something special should check out the Nordic Rye loaf (pictured) from Madison Sourdough. This hearty offering is a great addition to a pickle board or topped with the pungently-delicious Limburger cheese.
Another special find at market now is fresh epazote from Perez Produce (pictured). This aromatic herb has both culinary and medicinal uses, but is simply fantastic in home cooked black beans, especially as the herb is credited with easing the digestion of beans.
Due to the seemingly endless rain, we've got one more week with our altered paving setup. As a reminder customers can park along Charmany Drive as well as in the large Exact Sciences parking lot at 501 Charmany Drive, across the street from the south entrance (see map below).
We hope you all enjoy your 4th of July safely and with full tummies of deliciousness.
See you at market!
Ben Zimmerman
Market Manager
As a reminder to everyone, dogs are prohibited within the market area, though we welcome service animals at all times.
Market Lot Repaving
The parking lot aisles where the market is held will undergo repaving starting June 10th. During the weeks the work is being done, the market will relocate to the eastern three aisles in the same lot and the western aisles and entrances will be closed to traffic. We anticipate this to affect the markets on June 15th, 22nd, 29th & July 6th.
Customers will still be able to park along Rosa Road, Charmany Drive and also utilize the large parking lot just across the street behind Exact Sciences on Charmany Drive as well. The market will return to our normal placement within the MG&E Innovation Center lot once the work is completed.

There is an ongoing GoFundMe campaign to aid the family of Kenny Jasengou, son of Kelly Lor of Lor Farm as Kenny currently fights for his life after multiple surgeries related to a damaged heart and aortic valve stemming from a bacterial blood infection. A father of 5 and all around kind person, Kenny has been a long time friendly face of the market, aiding his mom over the years selling flowers and produce. Those interested in donating can find more information here.
