Labor Day Weekend

Tomato season is in full swing! Grab a delicious slicer from Blue Moon Community Farm

Labor Day Weekend

The feeling of summer is still well present, especially this coming weekend, but at market Labor Day weekend marks the beginning of the third and final market session. Session III is dominated by the flavors of fall, and while the heat sticks with us, the cracks of the coming season are beginning to show.

The first mums arrived this week, though well outnumbered by summer floral bouquets from Lor Farm and Country Bloomer's Greenhouse. Winter squash too debuted, only to be outshined by tender patty pan squash and zucchini.

Giant kohlrabi from Shoua Vang (pictured) are in, they make a great crisp snack especially paired with the Spicy Hummus from Savory Accents. Speaking of our sultans of spice, the growing number of hot peppers (pictured) now available from Savory Accents is a sight to be seen and one that only gets hotter as the weeks go on.

For those braving the coming temps, ready to endure a grill-side Labor Day cookout, be sure to stop by ParKelm Farm this weekend to load up on brats and hot dogs and then stop over for a dozen ears of fresh picked Alsum Sweet Corn.

Fresh fruit is in full supply at market as we move into Session III with peaches, plums, berries, melon and more available to choose from. The expanding variety options of apples mark another good sight to see, though they're also a tell-tale sign of what's to come.

A special addition to the fruit lineup this season is new apple butter and Gold Rush apple sauce from Atoms to Apples (pictured), made with their organically grown Goldrush apples.

We hope you'll join us this Saturday to kick off your Labor Day weekend and the start of Session III. We'll hold off the carving pumpkins and cranberries until October, but soon enough those crisp mornings will be here and we'll be trading shorts for sweaters. Enjoy the heat while you can!

See you at the market!
