May We Proceed
First morels of the season from Happy Valley Farm
May We Proceed
A kiss of frost, the blaze of the sun and the bouquet of lilac filling the air. It's the scene of an early May morning market day dawning before us.
Within a few hours the scene is bustling with shoppers grabbing the first asparagus of the season from Yang Family Farm or the first forager finds in morels from McCluskey Brothers Shillelagh Glen Farms.
The passersby carry flower baskets from Natalie's Garden & Greenhouse (pictured), perhaps as gifts for Mother's Day. Others appear more weighted with market bags full of tubs of Murphy Farms cottage cheese and packs of bacon from ParKelm Farm.
Bulking up more totes are cucumbers from Don's Produce (pictured), who returned for their first market of the 2021 season this past weekend with tomatoes & mixed greens as well.
These lengthening days of May set the stage for the long market season to come. The meals planned, the garden projects envisioned, the tables laid magnificent with flowers; all dreams within reach as we proceed into summer soon.
See you at market!
