Hot Days, Hotter Finds

Having rounded the corner of Memorial Day weekend, the summer season is just itching to be let out of the gate. The last day of school is in site and the temperature is already soaring like it's mid-July.

You'll have to wait for watermelon and field tomatoes, but you'll find plenty to satisfy as market season rolls into June.

Greens are multiplying by the week with spinach, arugula, lettuces and kale to be found, like this luscious pictured Lacinato kale from Shoua Vang.

If kale has always seemed too "health food" for you, may we suggest giving this recipe for Kale Bacon Salad with Candied Walnuts a try. Grab some walnuts from Bonde Bee and if you're lucky enough to have any dried cranberries from Wetherby Cranberry Co. left, pat yourself on the back as they'll go great in the salad.

Fresh out of maple syrup? Swing over to Open Kettle Farms to load up on a little or a lot (pictured) of the good stuff.

Speaking of the good stuff, for all you coffee lovers out there, we hope you got a chance to try out some of the tasty offerings from Alice Good Coffee last weekend, our newest addition to the vendor lineup. Stop by their stand this weekend for a great cup of hot coffee, or if you'd rather cool off, try their delicious cold brew.

On the subject of keeping cool, Kerch Apiary will be helping us out this weekend with refreshing hand-squeezed lemonade, the best remedy for a day with temps maxing out above 90°.

One additional bonus to look forward to this weekend is the return of Flyte Family Farms with their tasty produce, and much anticipation of their strawberries coming in later this month.

This heat is not breaking yet, so take a weekend off from your garden labors and swing by the Country Bloomer's Greenhouse stall for a lovely bouquet of flowers (pictured). Enjoy them in the shade while you snack on your market finds and let your mind fill up with summer plans.

See you at the market!
