Memorial Day Weekend
Before we dive into the many things to get excited for this coming weekend, we wanted say that wish everyone well after the intense storms this week.
Getting through these types of crisis exemplify the best in our community. We've seen neighbors helping cut and haul away downed limbs and brush, others offering up freezer space to those still without power and many a parent offering to watch kids while school was cancelled.
We see the simple beauty of that community each week at market, but to see it mobilized during a major event like this is truly wonderful. It also ties perfectly with a little anecdote your author wanted to share from last weekend's market.
During the market one of our littlest fans lost her favorite bunny (pictured) and before long another customer found it and did the right thing by turning it in to the Info Tent in hopes of it being reunited with its owner. Throughout the morning people would stop by and ask about it and soon enough another market shopper was posting about it via the Madison Reddit page.
Thankfully by the end of the day the bunny was retrieved as the last signs went down and just like that the day was saved and the bunny made it home safe.
Simple, wholesome, no hero's tale, but one that showed the good in us can come out in the smallest, yet most important ways.
As we gather with friends and loved ones in the coming days to take in Memorial Day weekend, we hope everyone gets a chance to celebrate that kind of connection we benefit so greatly from.
Intoxicated by the aromas coming from the grill, we'll give our thanks to Highland Spring Farm for their pasture-raised Scottish Highland beef, not only delicious but part of their regenerative agriculture practices that build good soils and protect our water ways.
Speaking of good practices and building healthy soils, Green Box Compost (pictured) is here for those who wish to cut down on food waste ending up in landfills by offering their subscription services that repurpose those scraps and turn them into a beneficial amendment for our soils.
While you're loading up on all your weekend cookout needs, stop by the Bryant Family Farms booth for their fresh, never frozen, chicken specials available in whole birds & a variety of cuts as well.
Whether you're looking to top a burger, or just make sure you have a great salad with all those other cookout classics, stop by Black Earth Valley to grab up some delicious Bibb lettuce (pictured).
Wishing everyone a restful and relaxing long weekend, with family, friends, community and some time for reflection on all those great things that bring us together.
See you at market!
