Sweet & Sweeter
Sweet cherries are back from Door County Fruit Market
Sweet & Sweeter
It's hard to find something more welcome than a good down pour in the midst of a drought. Hard, not impossible.
Finding yourself in the midst of fresh fruit season contends rather nicely. All around the market fresh fruit is in good supply, with the return last weekend of Door County Fruit Market and their delicious sweet cherries. Elsewhere there's fresh blueberries from Flyte Family Farms & JenEhr Family Farm (pictured), fresh red and black raspberries from Sai's Garden & Shoua Vang, and even the last few strawberries to be gobbled up.
Flashy berries may shine on the dessert plate or packed as a great snack, but what about the rest of the meal?
Thankfully mid-July finds us awash in more and more veggie options each week, with new potatoes, crunchy carrots, sweet peas, cauliflower and so much more coming in. Beautiful patty pan squash (pictured) from Emerald Meadows Family Farm makes a great side dish roasted with shallots.
Another mid-summer favorite is popping up in the form of fresh green beans from Yang Family Produce (pictured). Bean season lasts for many great weeks, so there's plenty of time to enjoy your favorite recipes or try something new like garlic-sesame green beans, an extra delicious side with the fresh garlic coming into market currently.
Not so much as sweet but for your sweetheart, fresh flower bouquets are plentiful this time of year with great options for those near and dear available from vendors like Lor Farm, Natalie's Garden & Greenhouse and Ka Vang Thao, who offered these lovely lily bouquets at market last week (pictured).
Coming up this weekend, we have something extra sweet and special for you, the return of sweet corn from Alsum Sweet Corn. Get ready to be grinning from ear to ear.
See you at the market!
