The First Kiss
A great selection of fresh herbs from Urban Gourmet
The First Kiss
Hard to believe we've made it so far into October without even a light frost. Yet the nip of winter is coming our way this week and for some market favorites, that's a good thing.
That first kiss of frost does marvels for certain fall produce, bringing out the sweetness in things like Brussels' sprouts, beets, rutabagas and more. Farmer Dan from Black Earth Valley remarked during the last market that he can't wait for a frost to sweeten up his already amazing spinach.
While we're thankful it won't be a lingering kiss to freeze us solid, we'll happily embrace the good as we add an extra layer to our Saturday morning market trip attire.
With four weeks left before we pack it in for the season, there's still plenty of time to get out and shop the market. Time enough to load up the freezer with delicious JenEhr Family Farm chicken and pasture raised pork from ParKelm Farm.
This weekend will mark the last chance of the 2021 season to get fresh, never frozen, chicken from Bryant Family Farms, so get those grills and smokers lit up!
Frost in the forecast also means the days for certain fresh produce are numbered, so now's the time to enjoy some of the rarer market finds, like okra from Ka Vang Thao or the pictured spicy greens mix from Natalie's Garden & Greenhouse.
For our FoodShare shoppers, there are two more markets to get your free $25 Double Dollar match, as the program ends Oct. 31st. FoodShare shoppers will still be able to get unmatched dollars in November and spend remaining Double Dollars as well.
So join us each week as we approach the final market on November 13th. In what's been a great season, we're here to enjoy every last moment, cold noses and all.
See you at market!
