Warmth in the Kitchen

Warmth in the Kitchen

A blast of heat this week won't trick us into thinking summer has come again. Sooner or later we all bow to cozy sweaters, knit caps and a love for the warmth of the fall kitchen.

The crisp mornings of fall bring us ParKelm Farm bacon (pictured) sizzling in the pan as we pour Open Kettle Farms maple syrup into our coffee and anticipate the day.

The longer nights call out for hearty dishes, like roasted Brussels sprouts from Ka Vang Thao or carrot and sweet potato soup with colorful purple sweet potatoes from Sai's Garden (pictured).

Pots of warming dishes sure do the trick but harnessing the heat from fall hot peppers can also give you the warmth you're after. Thai chilies from Shoua Vang can bring a little sweat to the brow, added to your favorite soups or transformed into an amazing chili paste that will stave off even the deepest winter chill.

For others, the comfort of the fall kitchen means indulging in something to warm the heart and soul, like a bar of delicious Driftless Chocolates (pictured) with a cup of warm cider as we take in a good book or talk with loved ones.

The waning end of the harvest season in Wisconsin means saying a temporary goodbye to many things we love, but with the heat of the oven, the smells of the cookstove and the coziness of home, there's plenty to be enjoyed in the shortening days to come.

See you at market!
